The limestone hills of Quercy, with their colourful patchwork of meadows, heath, woodland and crops provide a very pleasant landscape surrounding Domaine du Merchien. Here everything is done with patience, enthusiasm and most of all respect for local tradition.

Through its long, rich wine growing history, the region has seen the centuries come and go. Our vineyard is planted with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Auxerrois, Gamay, Tannat, Jurancon, Aubouriou and Syrah and produces fruity wines with floral notes. They are full bodied and are smooth to the palate.
Merchien’s winemakers, David and Sarah Meakin, have been producing some outstanding wines for this vineyard. The wines of Merchien are amongst the best in Quercy, and this is a vineyard which has offerings worth tasting and re-tasting, vintage to vintage.

The setting of Domaine du Merchien offers spectacular views of both the vineyard and the beautiful surrounding rural scenery. Merchien is a family-run vineyard that embraces the spirit of innovation: David and Sarah enjoy experimenting with the final products, which range from a Merchien wine, which is darkest red, and gives off scents of red berry fruits, and is rich, tannic, robust, full-flavoured and as it ages, develops delicate and complex aromas and floral notes. Merchien Rosé is a beautiful, fresh, crisp and surprising wine, it is both elegant and sophisticated, has considerable body for a rosé, whilst still keeping plenty of fruit.
The winery combines the best of some modern techniques with traditional wine making methods.

At Domaine Du Merchien everything is done with patience, enthusiasm and most of all, respect for local tradition. The vineyard has been herbicide free for the last ten years and operates a minimal chemical policy.

David and Sarah are on a mission to make serious, quality wines that establish Merchien’s reputation. Their drive and creativity has meant that they are winning well-deserved national recognition for Merchien wines.

Don't just take our word for it, if you need a recommendation, Merchien has won many awards for it's wines:
